I ordered this last winter and received it a month or so ago. Just today opened the box because I have been so busy this spring. I ordered the special with the smoker, jacket and veil. I guess I was a little miffed when I found out those items were backordered. Then half the assembly instructions were missing but I was able to access them via the website. The problem with that was the print was so small it was tough to read. Only worsened when I printed them out. Some things were misleading such as the number of predrilled holes for the window. Instructions said 8 but there were 10 but thankfully there were 10 screws.. Predrilled holes mentioned in instructions for hinges and walnut latches were nonexistent. The holes drilled in the ends for the white bushings were at an angle and one even came out the front of the board.. Had to redrill to make it work. Also all the predrilled holes for the shingles were off center by 3/16 of an inch. If I would have used them I surely would have come out the side. Overall I am quite pleased with the hive itself. With all the difficulties and a lunch break it took about 5 hrs, to assemble . i liked the way the legs were routed and rounded over. Another bonus was the bottle of linseed oil included. It was more than enough to finish the piece. It looks good. The only modification I am going to do is put a restraint from the lid to the side to keep the lid from going back so far. Now if I just had my back ordered items..
Overall th construction of the hive was easy and straightforward. There was an issue with the stand where the cutout for the horizontal support piece was not cut to the proper width. I have some basic woodworking skills so I was able to fix it myself, but it could have been a problem for others without the tools or knowledge.
Love the finished product but took some effort to assemble. Was missing a piece when arrived, customer service was excellent and piece arrived the next day. First try at beekeeping, so far the bees seem to like their new home.
