We finally got bees into our top bar this Spring (I have 30 Langstroth hives). I am impressed with the quality and design of this hive, and especially the fact that the top bar length is interchangeable with a Langstroth so that I can start top bars in a Langstroth hive or transfer a top bar nuc in a 19” box if needed. Only notes are (1) the hinge needs to be more robust as the screws are working loose and (2) the bees like to congregate under the lid along the outer edge of the top bars, where they are at risk of getting crushed when the hive is opened, so I need to heavy smoke to move them. Pulling the cover in toward the bars means more stress on the hinge. Overall, a very well made product, and I’ll be interested to see how they winter.
